Canada

canada stocks, growth stocks, value stocks, conservative stocks

Canada, our friendly neighbor to the north, is a beautiful country with political stability and a new found economic strength. It is a highly educated nation with an impressive standard of living.

It is three times the size of the USA and has 32 million people living within its borders.

It is a country rich in natural resources. British Columbia is dominated by the forestry industry. Alberta is a major oil producer. Mining projects abound throughout the country and the Atlantic Coastal area is known for its fisheries.

The service sector of the economy, employs 75% of its workforce. The largest sector is retail, followed closely by business services.

It is by far, the USA's largest trading partner. They export 81% of all their products to the USA. In return, they import 67% of their products from American manufacturers.

In 1999, the USA accounted for 72% of direct foreign investment. This figure has declined, due to their increased exportation of natural resources to various other countries. It appears that they are becoming more self-sufficient economically.

Recently, the Canadian Dollar, CAD, has made impressive gains against the US Dollar, USD. Actually, at this point in time, the CAD is slightly more valuable than the USD. Combine this with the fact that Canada is the only G7 country to run a surplus in recent years, and you have impressive reasons to invest in their economy.

The Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX, is the seventh largest in the world based upon market capitalization. It is owned and operated by TSX Group, a leader in the gas and oil sectors.

A healthy political relationship with the USA, for the most part, and an economic future that appears to be very bright, should insure an influx of foreign investments into Canada for many years to come.
