Collectibles
Collectibles are an asset that generally appreciates in value, over a period of time, due to its rarity.
The popularity of these items has skyrocketed in the past decade. Popular TV shows like, "The Antique Road Show", has grabbed more peoples attention than ever before. Everyone is going to garage sales, yard sales and auctions looking for a rare item.
It is advisable to have an interest in the item you are considering buying. For example, it is likely that an advid
baseball fan
would have more knowledge and interest in a Cal Ripken Jr. rookie card, than a non-baseball fan.
Here are just a few of the items that can be classified as collectibles:
1. Stamps
2. Vintage Music
3. Sports Memorabilia
4. Fine Art
5. Antiques
6. Guns
7. Dolls
8. Movie Posters
9. Books
10. Coins
Anything rare and of value can be considered as a possible investment.
Determining the value of collectibles, can be very difficult, and liquidity is often determined by demand. A love and interest of the item being considered for purchase is always a positive. An individual who truly has an interest in a particular area will become very knowledgeable in that field. Due to their love of the subject, many times they will become experts. Purchase rare items for self-satisfaction, and if it happens to appreciate in price, that is just an added bonus. Do your research on any rare item before purchasing.
