Financial Newsletters

Google

financial newsletters, investing, wealth building Financial Newsletters can be very deceiving. It is standard practice now to advertise and promise the moon and the stars.

The most common form of advertising by these publications, seems to be the "Teaser" Ads. The headlines usually claim that a certain stock is set to go up by 5000% in next the 2 months. Or they have uncovered a government conspiracy, that only investors who subscribe to their publication will know about. However, you must act quickly and send in your $2500, because after 200 people subscribe they will stop accepting new members.

Let me make it clear, that most of the publications that I subscribed to and read in my past, were written and edited by absolutely brilliant people. Their writing skills were impressive. Many a time I wanted to send a letter to one of the writers and tell them they were in the wrong profession. They should be writing a novel.

I am not trying to ridicule or embarrass anyone. Investing is difficult. Even more so when you have to deliver results to people paying you $5,000 a year for your "expert" advice. I am sure the pressure is constant, as these individuals try to find new and innovative ways to deliver steady gains for their subscribers.

My favorite financial newsleters, follow and analyze "Teaser" ads that are sent out on a regular basis. The companies discussed in the ads are identified and tracked. I strongly recommend looking at the websites who offer this service. It is usually free of charge.

It is very difficult for me to recommend any financial newsletter. I have not found one, that I am familiar with, that delivers on their promise. I could give specifics to my readers, as I have subscribed and tracked many of these publications. However, I do not know the legal ramifications of such an action. Therefore, I will not name names.

I would be remiss to say all publications are the same. I know of a few who appear to be very honest in presenting their positives as well as their negatives. Still, it seems to be common practice in the large majority of the financial newsletter industry, to only record their winning recommendations.

Remember, if you invest $10,000 and lose 50%, you will have to make a 100% return to get even. Keep this in mind as you read these teaser ads. I can honestly say, out of the hundreds of teaser ads that I have read and followed, only a few of them came remotely close to their outrageous claims. Many of them delivered substantial losses.

Only a small percentage of your portfolio should be dedicated to investing in securities that are usually recommended in these ads. The financial newsletter business is very competitive. The most creative writers are probably the one's who attract more subscribers. However, I personally believe their creative writing borders on deception. The Hulbert Financial Digest, is a wonderful publication that tracks and records the results of financial newsletters. I recommend checking it out before investing your hard earned cash.
